JR East's code (QR) payment service "teppay" launched on Oct 20, and it's being added automatically, in stages from 11am, to the Mobile Suica app. Suica itself is capped at ¥20,000, but teppay can be topped up from a bank account and other sources up to ¥300,000 (with My Number card ID check), so bigger purchases become possible. Linking a JR East "View Card" credit card lets you pay up to the card's limit with no advance charge. You can also send balance to family and friends, and teppay can top up Suica or buy commuter passes. Kyodo frames it as JR East's push against PayPay and other code-payment leaders. Mobile PASMO support is planned for spring 2027.
